Quick Guide to Estimating Pages for Scanning Services
Knowing your approximate page count helps you choose the right scanning package and estimate project costs more accurately.
Quick Estimate
The fastest way to estimate paper records is to measure the thickness of your documents and multiply by 150-200 pages per inch.
You may use a ruler to measure the height/thickness of the stack or the linear inches of paper in a folder/box/shelf.
Document Thickness (inches) x 150-180 pages per inch (standard average for office paper in typical filing conditions)
Common Rules of Thumb:
- Loose/Average filing: 150-180 pages for inch.
- Tightly packed: Up to 200 pages per inch.
- Standard ream check: A 2-inch thick ream of 500 sheets confirms ~250 pages per inch when brand new and uncompressed, but records average lower due to air, folders, etc.
Examples:
5-inch thick stack: 750-1000 pages
12-inch bankers box (full): 2,000-2,500 pages
1 foot on a shelf: 1,800-2,200 pages
